Join Austin Parks Foundation, Friends of Alderbrook Park and Austin Parks and Recreation on Thursday, July 14 at 9:00 a.m. for the Alderbrook Pocket Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 12444 Lamplight Village Ave. This is an outdoor park event so please dress comfortably.
Alderbrook Pocket Park has native Live Oaks, Cedar Elms, and Mexican Sycamores as well as a concrete walking trail connected to bench seating in an open meadow. There is also a covered picnic table pavilion for community use. The playground includes boulders, play mounds and balancing logs to encourage nature play exploration. The new park opened in January of 2022.
Since 2010, Austin Parks Foundation has been working with the Friends of Alderbrook Park to build Alderbrook Park. The surrounding neighborhood was designated as a high priority area by Austin Parks and Recreation because it had no local park or walking trails. Community members advocated to turn a vacant lot into a park. In September 2018, the Friends of Alderbrook Park applied for detailed park design assistance with Austin Parks Foundation.
Austin Parks Foundation awarded the design service to develop plans and a cost estimate for the playground and picnic area that was included in the Vision Plan developed by Austin Parks and Recreation. The plan and associated budget was developed with community input. The project utilized $426,177 in Parkland Dedication Funds.
